For all motorists who will be traveling the streets of South Bend on Monday, March 24, 2008, the SBPD urges the use of caution and patience as several South Bend streets will be effected by traffic delays and restrictions during the Dyngus Day and Solidarity Day observance.
With the arrival of Former President Clinton at approximately 11:30 AM, the area(s) on and around Western Avenue from the 600-2400 blocks and the associated residential areas surrounding the West Side Democratic Club, and Elks Lodge #298, will be very congested and significant traffic delays can be expected. Depending on traffic volume, some streets may be closed to through traffic to facilitate motorcades or public gatherings.
Individuals who are visiting the above venues are asked to respect traffic and parking restrictions and use common sense when choosing a parking location. It is important that private driveway access and fire lanes are maintained and the police department will be enforcing these restrictions.
Also, it is important that individuals celebrating do so responsibly. There are always many pedestrians in the area of the celebration sites, and all motorists are urged to use caution, drive slowly and be aware foot traffic.
