SBPD Auction Coming Up

The South Bend Police Department will be conducting one of its semi-annual auctions of seized and found property on Saturday, June 3rd, 2006, starting at 8:00am.

The auction will be held in the garage at the rear of police headquarters at 701 W. Sample St., in South Bend: MAP

As usual, SBPD auctions are Cash Only, no checks. All items are sold "as is".

SBPD Make Arrest Following Robbery

Following the early morning armed robbery of Frank’s Place Liquor Store, 327 W. Marion St.; South Bend police were able to arrest a local man in connection with the crime.

Jamel A. Hoskins, 26, was determined to have been one of the suspects in the liquor store robbery. Hoskins was charged with Robbery, class B-Felony.

2006 SBPD Memorial Service

In honor of the National Law Enforcement Officer’s Memorial Week this week, the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 36— in conjunction with the South Bend Police Department— will conduct a Memorial Service commemorating South Bend’s 14 fallen officers on Wednesday, May 17, at 1:30 p.m.

The public is invited to this service, and the ceremonies will take place in front of the South Bend Police Department Headquarters & Regional Training Academy, 701 W. Sample St.

Several dignitaries and clergy, families, friends and colleagues will be present, in remembrance of those who made the ultimate sacrifice for this community. Features will be an Honor and Color Guard ceremony, 21-gun salute and Echo Taps.

Homicide: 1839 S. Miami St.

On this date, at approximately 10:09am South Bend Police Department received a call of a possible burglary at the above listed address. Officers arrived and found a male subject had made entry into the apartment to check the welfare of his relative. What this individual discovered was the body of his relative who is also the renter of the apartment. The occupant of this address was the victim of an apparent homicide. The St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit was then contacted.

The victim of this homicide is identified as one: Brennan W. Marsh, 23 of South Bend.

At this time the MHU is investigating and ask that anyone with information on this case contact them at 574-235-5009 or crime stoppers at 574-288-STOP.

The method of death appears to be gunshot, however we are awaiting autopsy results for further information.

SBPD Thanks the Community

On behalf of the South Bend Police Department and the Severns family, we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the community for the tremendous outpouring of support in our time of grief.

The death of Scott Severns was tragic and sudden. It has deeply affected our department and this community as well as Scott's family and friends.

It is comforting to know that in these times there is such a community of caring. We were all touched by your comforting words, prayers and your presence throughout this past week.

SBPD Arrest Two in String of Robberies

The South Bend Police Department have arrested two men in connection with a string of robberies. The robberies were being committed both in and out of the City, and involved the suspect(s) wielding a sawed-off shotgun.

Arrested was: Willie Anderson, 31; and Donald Mallard, 49; both of South Bend. Anderson and Mallard were both apprehended after they led police on a vehicular chase on the City's North West side around noon today (May 01, 2006). The suspects crashed their vehicle in a vacant lot and ran from police on foot prior to being caught and arrested.

Both men face 7 counts of armed robbery (B-Felony); 1 count of Possession of a Sawed-Off Shotgun (D-Felony); and 1 count of Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon (C-Felony).

The two suspect are currently lodged at the St. Joseph County Jail.
